The top rusher for Pitt won't on the field against Tennessee.
In the season opener against West Virginia, Rodney Hammond had a breakout performymedihelpce for a redesigned Pitt Panthers offence, but it cost him.
Late in the second half, a Mountaineer defender tackled Hammond, causing him to fall and hurt his leg.
Hammond isn't warming up with his teammates tailbacks before kickoff versus the Tennessee Volunteers, so it now seems like the Panthers will be without a back.
Regarding Hammond's condition this week, head coach Pat Narduzzi made no announcements.
The good news for Pitt is that they still have two backs available who have starting experience.
The depth chart for this week lists Israel Abanikanda, who led the team in rushing a year ago, as a co-starter.
Israel Abanikanda is engaged, as is Vincent Davis, who has played in 37 games and amassed more than 1,500 rushing yards.
Deslin Alexandre, a senior captain and defensive end for the Panthers, will also return after suffering a wrist injury during the opening period of the Backyard Brawl.
